AQUA ARMPOCKET REVIEW BY NAVY SEAL, PERRY YEE

AQUA ARMPOCKET REVIEW BY NAVY SEAL, PERRY YEE

Dec 22, '17

I’ve been fortunate enough to have traveled to many different places throughout the country and the rest of the globe, but I have to say that San Diego is one of my favorite places to be. Being a native of New England where you can really only be active outdoors for a few months out of the year, you grow to appreciate everything San Diego has to offer, minus the ridiculous gun laws and abundance of man buns and skinny jeans walking around. The weather is near perfect all year round which means you can be outside and active most every day. And there are very few other places, if any, where you can be in the ocean surfing in the morning, and then up in the mountains hitting the slopes in the late afternoon.

Sometimes being outside and disconnected to the rest of the world can be a peaceful thing, but for those who can’t go a few minutes without updating their statuses, there are options for keeping your phone with you at all times, even when you’re out catching some waves. The latest item I’ve had the chance to experience was the Aqua waterproof armband by Armpocket. It’s said to be 100% waterproof in up to 4 feet of water for 3 hours. It fits any size and style phone you have along with room for other important items like a credit card, ID, or any loose cash that you need to carry around. It offers 2 different levels of protection with a zip seal and snap-lock closures. You can use the touchscreen on your phone through the window of the pocket. And the velcro strap stays tight and secure even when wet. Another great feature is that it also floats, so there’s less worrying to do if it does happen to fall off while you're in the water.

Now I’m not a surfer, so I wasn’t able to take it out to the middle of the ocean as I became one with the waves, but that didn’t stop me from putting it through the ringer. I took it up to the mountains for a long hike climb up rocks and crossing rivers where it also may have “accidentally” fallen off into the flowing waters. I’m a big fan of the quality and structure of the armband. After chasing it down from the current time and time again, everything I had inside stayed dry and safe. I’ve never trusted any other products with my phone that had said to be water resistant, so it was comforting to see that this product lived up to the hype. Plus I didn’t have a big bag of rice I could throw my phone into if it actually got wet.

The device as a whole is pretty comfortable to wear. With activities like climbing, paddling, and hiking, I can see the armband being less noticeable than most when wearing it. Personally, however, when it came to taking it out on a run, it was something I wasn’t too fond of. That being said, with our mobile phones getting larger and larger by the day, it’s tough to create something that is comfortable to wear when out hitting the pavement. Even though it was pretty secure, just carrying the bulk of it was uncomfortable. Having other devices like smartwatches you can put music on and track your distance with, paired up with a set of wireless headphones is the route that I would personally take when getting a high impact workout in.

That being said, for those who still prefer to carry everything with them, Armpocket has many different options that are a little more streamline from armbands to waist pouches and I think they are a great product. It’s something I still take with me when doing other activities outside. The Aqua armband runs in at $49.95, which can be a little on the higher side when it comes to armbands, but with the quality of the product, you get what you pay for. You can literally bring this in any environment and know that your device and belongings will stay safe and protected. The overall comfort is pretty good when wearing it, just don’t overload it with too many items to carry. The durability is great and you will notice for yourself that it can take a beating and still maintain all its functions. I think it’s a great choice for people who enjoy being outdoors, have an active lifestyle and who love to stay connected with the rest of the world. The device is 100% waterproof for the iPhone 7, your ID, and keys. I look forward to seeing what else they release in the future.
